As part of the natural aging process, the skin gradually loses collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elasticity. These essential components are responsible for maintaining skin structure, hydration, and firmness. As their levels decrease over time, fine lines, wrinkles, volume loss, and facial sagging can develop. These changes most commonly appear around the eyes, mouth, cheeks, jawline, brow, and nose.

What is Dermal Filler Injections
Dermal filler injections are a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment designed to address these visible signs of aging. By carefully injecting soft tissue fillers beneath the skin, volume can be restored and facial contours enhanced. Dermal fillers offer temporary yet effective improvements with little to no downtime.
This treatment can help to:
- Enhance and plump the lips for a fuller, more youthful appearance
- Soften and smooth fine lines and deeper facial wrinkles
- Lift and fill deep folds and hollow areas, such as sunken or hollow cheeks
- Improve the appearance of facial scars and skin imperfections caused by acne or injury

Types of Dermal Fillers & How They Work
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that plays a vital role in maintaining hydration, volume, and elasticity. Dermal fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm are made from hyaluronic acid–based gels and are commonly used to temporarily correct lines around the mouth, restore lost volume, elevate depressed scars, and enhance lip fullness.
Other soft tissue fillers include Radiesse (calcium hydroxyapatite) and Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid). These fillers work differently by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production, helping to gradually replenish lost volume and improve overall skin structure over time.

Procedure
Dermal filler treatments are performed in our Modesto office in a comfortable clinical setting. Before the injections, your provider may mark specific areas of the face to ensure accurate and precise placement. The treatment area is then cleansed with an antibacterial solution to reduce the risk of infection.
Many fillers contain a built-in anesthetic to improve comfort during the procedure. If additional comfort is needed, topical numbing cream, ice, or a local anesthetic may be used. Most patients tolerate the procedure well and report only minimal discomfort.
The filler is injected using a fine needle directly into the targeted areas. You may feel slight pressure, stinging, or a mild burning sensation during injection.
In some cases, a series of treatment sessions may be recommended to achieve optimal smoothing of wrinkles, restoration of volume, or correction of depressed scars.
Unlike older collagen-based fillers, modern dermal fillers do not require skin testing.

Recovery
After treatment, temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, or minor bruising may occur at the injection sites. If bruising develops, it typically resolves within a few days to one week. Makeup can usually be applied shortly after treatment, and most patients are able to return to normal daily activities the same day.
Dermal fillers are temporary, and longevity varies depending on the specific filler used and individual factors. Some fillers last approximately six months, while others may last up to two years. Maintenance or touch-up treatments may be recommended to maintain optimal results.
While dermal fillers do not stop the natural aging process, they can significantly enhance facial balance, restore youthful volume, and create a refreshed, natural-looking appearance.

Liposuction FAQ
Common questions about tumescent liposuction in Modesto, CA.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Results vary by product, area treated, and metabolism. Many hyaluronic acid fillers last about 6–18 months, while collagen-stimulating options may last longer. Your provider will recommend the best option based on your goals.
Do filler injections hurt?
Most patients feel mild pressure or a quick pinch. Many fillers include a numbing agent, and we can use topical numbing or ice for added comfort. Treatment is usually quick with minimal discomfort.
Will I look “overfilled” or unnatural?
Our goal is natural-looking enhancement—restoring balance and subtle volume. We use conservative dosing and precise placement, and can build results gradually if needed.
What should I avoid before and after treatment?
To reduce bruising, your provider may advise avoiding certain supplements/medications when medically appropriate. After treatment, avoid intense exercise, heat/saunas, and alcohol for a short period, and don’t massage the area unless instructed.
Is there downtime, bruising, or swelling?
Downtime is minimal. Some swelling, redness, or light bruising can happen and usually resolves within a few days (bruising can last up to a week for some patients). Most return to normal activity the same day.
